Classic car show a resounding success
Car enthusiasts were treated to a celebration of motoring.
THE Triumph Sports Car Club’s show last week was more than a show.
It was a celebration of all things motoring and a nostalgic drive back in time to when the car was far more than a useful vehicle.
Triumph sports cars from all over South Africa, ranging from the TR series through to the bigger sedans, converged on the South Coast for five days. The really impressive selection of different models of this iconic sports car was a joy to see.
Their owners took part in a big get-together that the Triumph Sports Car Club of South Africa organises every second year. This time round it was the KwaZulu-Natal centre’s turn to host the gathering and as it is also the centre’s 40th anniversary this year, the celebration was even more special. South Coast members of this centre were overjoyed to welcome about 160 Triumph owners from all over the country and even from overseas.
Most of the visitors stayed at TO Strand, Leisure Bay, where most of the celebrations took place. The Triumph parade around the establishment was a show highlight and earned sustained applause. A grand show day was held in the parking ground near Blue Lagoon Restaurant at Ramsgate beach on Monday this week. All cars were on show and looked their very best as they came under close scrutiny during the judging.
The line-up included models such as the Super 7, the TR2 through to the TR7, Stags and Saloons as well as the full Spitfire ranges.
It was not only the wonderful cars that made the show such a success. As usual, a carnival atmosphere prevailed. Even the weatherman played the game, contributing bright sunshine to add to the fun. Not surprisingly this festive show has become one of the major motoring events on the KwaZulu-Natal calendar. For more photos, visit our gallery
