Jenny aims to ‘lighten things up’
The Rotary Club of Hibiscus Coast held its induction dinner recently.
THERE was a festive atmosphere at Marcello’s at the Southcoast Mall, which served as the venue for the Rotary Club of Hibiscus Coast’s (Margate and Uvongo) annual induction dinner, last Friday.
Outgoing president Rina Opperman presented the chain of office to her successor, Jenny Fisher.
It was time for Rotarians to reflect on the projects the club had accomplished during the past year.
Incoming president Jenny Fisher said that the theme for this year, ‘Light Up Rotary’, was a challenging one.
“The words, ‘Light Up Rotary’ can be adapted to ‘Lighten Up Rotary’ – to bring fun into meetings, more fellowship, more working together on projects, not one man projects, but club projects with everyone getting their hands dirty,” said Mrs Fisher.
She also explained that Rotary International president Gary Huang was hoping that Rotary would soon be a household name synonymous with its motto, ‘Service above Self,’ and also seen as a fun group of hard-working people.
“This means that we have to ‘sell’ Rotary to family, friends and, in fact, to all we meet,” said Mrs Fisher.
Once the formalities were out of the way, members and their guests enjoyed an evening of fun and camaraderie.
