Temporary safety parents desperately needed on South Coast
You can become the safe place where healing begins.
Every day, in our communities, a child faces a moment no child ever should – being removed from their home for their own safety.
In those moments of crisis, Give a Child a Family (GCF) urgently needs caring individuals and families – from all races, backgrounds, and walks of life – to open their hearts and homes as temporary safety parents.
GCF senior social worker, Hazel Gigaba, said these removals happen only as a last resort, when a child’s life or wellbeing is in danger, and there is no other option to keep them safe.
These ‘parents’ provide temporary care for children who have been removed from unsafe environments while social workers investigate and work towards family reunification or a suitable long-term placement.
It may be for a few days, weeks, or months – but during that time, you become the safe place where healing begins.
“Across our communities, the need for approved safety parents is growing. Without enough emergency families available, social workers struggle to find immediate, safe care for these children.
At GCF, we firmly believe that children belong in secure families, not in institutions. Whether single or married, if you have a good support network, stability, and the capacity to care for children who have experienced trauma, you can make an extraordinary difference in a child’s life,” said Hazel.
