A MAN, known as ‘Advocate’ Xavier Muller, will certainly be seeking some legal advice after he was tracked down by police and arrested on Tuesday this week.
The Port Shepstone detectives’ latest arrest sends out a clear message to criminals hiding along the coast.
Police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid, said Warrant Officer Patrick Gosling from POP Port Shepstone received certain information regarding a man wanted in Port Elizabeth and alerted Captain Mariana Vos from the Port Shepstone detectives, who had previously run a background check on the man.
Lt-Col Wiid said a background check was done after a local business contacted her last Thursday, stating that Muller (49) had approached them and suggested a deal whereby he would donate R5-million towards the purchase of a bus for the company’s daily transport needs.
She said he further informed the local company that he was from a foundation in the Netherlands and proceeded to draw up the paperwork.
However, the company smelled a rat and Captain Vos was informed.
“Captain Vos then discovered that Muller was wanted across the country for various theft and fraud cases,” she said.
Lt-Col Wiid said that when liaising with the department of correctional services, it turned out that Muller was released on parole, but according to his parole conditions, was not supposed to be in KwaZulu-Natal.
A warrant of arrest for this parolee was sent to the Port Shepstone detectives.
W/O Gosling confirmed to Captain Vos that Muller was in the Ezinqoleni area and she and Warrant Officer Heidi van der Merwe from Port Shepstone detectives proceeded to Ezinqoleni.
They were accompanied by Constable Senzo Nzama and Constable Ashley Ramsingh from Port Shepstone K9 Unit as well as a section of POP members from Port Shepstone who arrested Muller.
He was taken to the Port Shepstone department of correctional services where the investigating officer from Port Elizabeth will fetch him.
Major General Thembi Ndlovu, Port Shepstone cluster commander, praised the members involved in the arrest and warned criminals that her police members are committed to arrest those who choose to find a hiding place in this area.
