51 straws of heroin seized

Police also confiscated several cases of liquor and half a tablet of Mandrax.

MORE heroin and alcohol have been seized in police operations on the South Coast.

Last Wednesday, Constable Raphael Smithwick, Cst Lee Frost and Cst Mzakwe Makana from Port Shepstone Public Order Policing (POP), arrested Simiso Mavundla (24) and Nhlakanepho Mkhungo (21) as well as a woman, Hlanishwa Mthanyana (31) for dealing in heroin.

The woman was caught with 44 straws of heroin in Betania and the two men were caught with seven straws of heroin and half a tablet of mandrax.

They appeared in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court last Thursday.

“Police also confiscated several cases of liquor from a store in Betania,” said police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.

“A 26 year-old man was given a fine for dealing in liquor without a licence. A 62-year-old woman was also fined for dealing in liquor without a licence in Bhobhoyi and a case of beer was confiscated,” she said.

She added that Mthanyana is still in custody and her case was postponed to September 29. Mkhungo paid bail and his case was postponed to September 26. Mavundla’s case was postponed to September 26 and he remains in custody.
