The alleged rapist will appear in court again later this month.

A MAN (26) was ‘arrested’ by the community and handed over to the police after he allegedly raped a seven-year-old boy in a forest near Sawoti, Umzumbe.

Police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid, said a rape case was opened at Sawoti police station. The man was charged and appeared in court where the case was postponed to August 18 . The man remains in police custody.

The boy has been taken to hospital for screening to assess physical and psychological damage. Tests indicated that he ‘mentally and physically all right’.

He is now staying with his father in Inanda and reportedly doing ‘very well’.
