Craigieburn terrorised by criminals

In the last six months, one home in Juniper Street has been broken into four times.

CRAIGIEBURN residents and business owners are fed up with being targeted by robbers. Over the past six months there has been a spate of cable theft and violent armed robberies and residents say they are frustrated that law enforcement has become reactive and not proactive.

In June Moodley’s Housewives Market was targeted by armed criminals. A shoot-out between the robbers and owner ensued and the bullet holes can still be seen in the store.

In the last six months, one home in Juniper Street has been broken into four times. The stolen items included a firearm. In another incident three months ago, a homeowner in the same road was attacked , and a third house was robbed.

This street has also been targeted three times in two weeks by cable thieves.  Ashma Street and Seaview Street have also been hit by cable thieves.

Three months ago six armed men beat an Umkomaas man so badly with the butt of a firearm while robbing his house that he had to be hospitalised.

In another incident in Gardenia two weeks ago, an elderly woman and her domestic worker were bound with cable ties and held at gunpoint while six men dressed in security uniforms ransacked the home. They fled with a undisclosed sum of money.

At the time of publishing Umkomaas station commander, Colonel PN Govender could not be reached for comment.
