Sunflower breakfast a success
The women's event raised a whopping R12 550 for the fund.
THE Shelly Centre’s first annual Women’s Day Breakfast in aid of The Sunflower Fund was a morning filled with inspiration.
About 100 women, dressed in floral outfits, filled the foyer area of the Ster Kinekor Cinemas and were treated to coffee and a delicious breakfast on arrival. Through the generosity of those present the event raised R12 550 which will be used by The Sunflower Fund to build the South African Bone Marrow Registry.
After a very moving DVD that paid tribute to the kindness, compassion and selflessness of humanity, Stephanie Berry, PR manager of The Sunflower Fund in Durban, encouraged guests to embrace the characteristics of a Good Samaritan by becoming bone marrow stem cell donors.
Women were captivated by local South Coast girl and leukaemia survivor Jamie-Lee Caple’s journey from when she was diagnosed to the way she enjoys life to the full 10 years later.
Motivational speaker, Karen Clarke, entertained the women with a talk on flowers and flower personalities.
The more donors on the registry, the more hope children and young adults diagnosed with leukaemia have of finding their 1:100 000 lifesaving donor match.
Stephanie thanked the Shelly Centre, Ster Kinekor Cinemas, Sally Heaver Versatile Caterers, One Way Productions, Izotsha Creek, Jay’s Flowers and all who attended the event.
“Your contribution has made an amazing difference to leukaemia patients and their families. Thank you for being prepared to ‘Share a Little, Save a Life’,” she said.
