Policeman shot and killed

A rifle is believed to have been used in the murder.

A POLICEMAN stationed at Hibberdene was shot dead on the R102, Sipofu road near Hibberdene last Saturday.

Police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said Sergeant Michael Sibongiseni Khawula (41) was travelling in his private car at around 7pm when he was shot at.

“The sedan had several bullet holes and Sgt Khawula was shot in the body and head. The car left the road and came to a standstill on the verge,” she said.

Several cartridges, believed to be from a rifle, were found at the scene. The motive is still unknown and under investigation. No arrests have been made. A murder docket has been opened.
