POLICE have made a breakthrough in the investigation into the disappearance of Nicolene Hamann (34), who is now thought to have been murdered.
Police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said Detective Warrant Officer Abraham Sonnekus who is stationed at the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigations (DPCI) Organised Crime Unit in Port Shepstone, assisted Harding detectives with the investigation.
“Nicolene’s family identified a ring found near the burned body at the dump site as belonging to Nicolene. Thorough forensic investigation was done by Det W/O Sonnekus and officers from the Port Shepstone and Pietermaritzburg K9 units. All this forensic evidence was forward to the Criminal Record Centre in Pretoria for analysis,” said Lt-Col Wiid.
The specialised unit and Harding detectives are still busy with intensive investigation into the matter. A murder docket has since been opened.
