Suspected copper thieves in court

The men appeared in court on Monday this week.

TWO men, who were arrested for being in possession of stolen copper pipes, appeared in the Ramsgate Magistrate’s Court on Monday this week.

The case was postponed to Monday, September 15.

Police spokesman, Captain Gerald Mfeka, said police were conducting an operation in the Margate industrial area when they stopped and searched Thandelakhe Chiliza (26) and Ndumiso Dlamini (28) last Saturday.

The men were arrested and subsequently charged with being in the possession of suspected stolen property.

Although it is not clear if the cases are linked, a theft of copper pipe case was reported to police on the same day.

Capt Mfeka advised scrap metal dealers not to purchase  copper they suspect may have been stolen.
