POLICE have put measures in place to try and combat the housebreakings in the Southport area.
This is according to police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid, who said that police have taken notice of the number of housebreaking incidents in the area, but can also confirm that housebreakings decreased this past week compared to the previous week.
“Southport police have made some arrests in the cases and the suspects were sent to court. It must also be said that some of the houses which have been broken into, are vacant houses,” she said.
She urged residents to inform their friends or neighbours if they were going away and for them to keep a watchful eye. She said residents must be aware of any strange people loitering around who could be observing houses.
“Alert the police immediately. Do not entice criminals to break in by leaving windows and doors open and valuables lying around in the open,” she said.
