Worthmann brothers to represent South Africa in the USA
They will get the opportunity to meet former USA president Bill Clinton.
SHAUN Worthmann, director and owner of Real Time Energy (Pty) ltd and his brother Cedric Worthmann, who works for Eskom, will be the recipients of the legends in energy award at the World Energy Engineering Congress (WEEC) in Washington DC in the United States of America in October this year.
The two brothers, who were born and bred in Ramsgate, will leave on Friday (tomorrow) and the conference will be from October 1 to 3.
The keynote speaker will be USA former president Bill Clinton. The WEEC is well recognised as the most important energy event of national and international scope for users and energy professionals in all areas of the energy field.
It is a comprehensive forum where one can assess the ‘bigger picture’ and see exactly how the economic and market forces, new technologies, regulatory development and industry trends all merge to shape critical decisions on organisations’ energy and economic future.
The annual event features a large, multi-track conference agenda, a full line-up of seminars on a variety of current topics, and a comprehensive exposition of the market’s most promising new technologies.
Both Shaun and Cedric are registered and have degrees in electrical engineering. Shaun still lives in Ramsgate while Cedric is now in Durban.
Shaun and Professor OD Dintchev of the Tswane University of Technology will be presenting a paper at the congress on solar water heating with special focus on measurement, verification and carbon emission reduction. Professor Dintchev ironically has a holiday home in Ramsgate and plans to retire there when the time is right.
Shaun is also the South African author of ‘My Powerful Home’, a book published in the USA, which has two versions, an American one and a South African one.
He has written this book with American authors Keith Johnson and Janet McConnell Johnson. The book has been recognised by leaders in the South African energy industry as one of the best guides to homeowners on energy matters.
“With 20 years of work experience in the energy sector, and as a homeowner, I wanted to share my knowledge with fellow South Africans, in the hope of improving our carbon footprint, and the legacy we leave for our children,” said Shaun.
Shaun is a family man, a father of three. He enjoys working on the farm, fishing and loves his sport.
