A SPATE of robberies has occurred in the Margate policing cluster area in the last week.
Police spokesman, Captain Gerald Mfeka, has warned the public to be extra careful when out walking or driving.
Last Friday, a couple were in Marine Drive, Margate when two men came towards them with a knife.
Capt Mfeka, said one of the suspects grabbed the woman’s breast, and in response her partner hit the man, who grabbed his cellphone.
One the same day, passengers in a taxi which stopped for a few moments at the Oribi Plaza in Port Shepstone were robbed of cellphones, wallets, clothes and other items.
The taxi had stopped so that one of the passengers could go to the toilet. As the vehicle was about to depart, a man carrying a bushknife opened the driver’s door and demanded money. He then made off with the passengers’ goods.
On Monday this week, a woman was walking along Toto Ngwazi Road in Gamalakhe when she was confronted by two men who threatened her with a knife and stole her cellphone.
Another case was opened when pedestrians walking along Homestead Road and Harry Gwala Road in Gamalakhe last Sunday were confronted by two men, who threatened them with a screwdriver. They fled with two cellphones.
No arrests have been made.
