A MAN formerly employed by a security company was arrested for house breaking and theft in Hibberdene last Wednesday.
The house the burglar chose was in Miami Drive, and the home owner was in Johannesburg at the time.
The owner received an SMS from his security company stating that his house alarm had been activated. He arrived in Hibberdene later the same day.
“Once home he noticed that a flat screen television and liquor were missing,” said police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.
The home owner and an employee from the security company, as well as Protection Services officer, Devlyn Abbott, did some investigating and discovered that all evidence pointed to a former employee at the security company as the possible suspect.
They proceeded to the suspect’s house where they found the stolen television and liquor in his room.
“It was discovered that the man had obtained a set of keys for the house in a clandestine manner by disguising himself, wearing a wig and a Halloween costume,” said Lt-Col Wiid.
Jurgens Johannes Albertus du Preez (40) was arrested and appeared in the Hibberdene Magistrate’s Court last Thursday for house breaking and theft.
He was denied bail and the case was postponed.
