TWO bank customers were targets of two separate robberies in the Port Shepstone CBD recently.
The first incident took place on September 21 at about 7.30am when a 59-year-old woman withdrew money from an ATM.
“The woman also had other cash in her possession prior to withdrawing money,” said police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.
“She was approached by two women and a man. The man introduced himself as ‘Sergeant Dlamini’ and told her that she must be careful and not talk to strangers. However they managed to take her money from her while talking to her.”
A theft case is being investigated. No arrests have been made.
In another incident, a 36-year-old man who went to withdraw money was also robbed.
According to Lt-Col Wiid, the man said that on Thursday last week, after withdrawing money, he crossed the road and was approached by a woman who dropped a plastic bag containing cash.
She then asked him to accompany her to a grey car to count the money.
What he didn’t know was that four men were sitting in the car.
“The men introduced themselves as police officers and accused him of stealing the money. The man was told to get into the car and the conmen then drove off and dropped him near the Mzimkhulu River after taking all his cash,” she said.
Port Shepstone SAPS have opened a robbery case. No arrests have been made.
