‘Houdini’ housebreaker on the run

The manacled man managed to open the handcuffs and escape.

A ROBBER cuffed to the railing on the verandah of a house he had burgled escaped soon after he had been arrested.

Police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said police  were called to a house in Albersville last Wednesday at about 4am after the man of the house was woken by his wife who had heard noises.

The man of the house contacted a relative, but the family’s  security guard apprehended the thief, whom he then handcuffed to the railing.

Certain items were recovered from the suspect.

According to the homeowner, while police and the security guard were conducting further investigations, the suspect managed to open the handcuffs and escape.

“The recovered items were handed in at the police station as evidence. The case is under investigation,” said Lt-Col Wiid.

She added that no arrests had yet been made.
