A million movies a month…are you guilty?

The monthly pirated downloads figure excludes the downloading of books, music and games.

IF you download movies illegally from the Internet, you are one of the South Africans guilty of stealing an astounding 1 000 000 movies a month.

According to a report which appeared on the IOL website, South Africa is one of the biggest culprits on the continent, and ranks 14th in the world. The top spot on the list goes to Brazil.

Corné Guldenpfennig, head of the SA Federation Against Copyright Theft (Safact), said, ““We’ve got a serious internet problem.”

She said Safact monitored 70 specific film and series titles to see how many times they were downloaded by IP addresses in South Africa. The result – 12 million per year, NOT including  music, games or book downloads. To read more on this crime and its effects, click here
