TWO suspected house robbers were caught at a roadblock on the R102 near Hibberdene on Wednesday this week.
Various units from the SAPS, Hibiscus Coast Protection Services, Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) and members from Home Affairs were on duty at the roadblock.
Police were on the lookout for unroadworthy vehicles, illegal immigrants, vehicles transporting drugs or firearms, and wanted suspects.
“Many motorists received fines for contravening road traffic laws, including having smooth tyres and expired licences,” said police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.
Two suspects wanted for housebreaking in the Southport area were also arrested.
“One person, from Malawi, could not produce legal documentation, and a 54-year-old man travelling in a minibus was arrested for possession of dagga. He was en route from Lusikisiki in the Eastern Cape to Durban,” said Lt-Col Wiid.
She added that similar roadblocks will be conducted in the Port Shepstone cluster as part of a crime prevention strategy.
