HCM placed in the top ten

The municipality is one of the municipalities doing well in KwaZulu-Natal.

AT a Presidential Local Government Summit in Midrand, Johannesburg last month the Hibiscus Coast Municipality was rated one of the top 10 municipalities which are doing well in KwaZulu-Natal. The announcement was made by the MEC of Cooperative Government and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) Pravin Gordhan who categorised municipalities into four groups – ones doing well, functional, challenged and those that required intervention.

MEC Gordhan also presented the newly launched strategy entitled National Guidelines for Provincial Support, Monitoring and Interventions for Municipalities, popularly known as Back to Basics (B2B).

The summit was attended by HCM mayor Cynthia Mqwebu, speaker Ronnie Nair, chief whip Zithulele Maphumulo, municipal manager Max Mbili and other senior managers.

According to HCM municipal manager, Max Mbili “the municipality is of the view that its recognition as a doing well municipality is as a result of collective effort by the political and administrative leadership, dedicated municipal staff, stakeholders and community support at large”.

“The council is proud to be one of the top 10 municipalities in KwaZulu-Natal and has vowed to maintain the momentum for the benefit of the general public in the creation of a better life for all and moving service delivery forward,” he concluded.
