A CLEAR message was sent out by police to criminals yesterday (Monday) after a man and woman were robbed at the Port Shepstone beachfront.
Three armed men confronted the couple and, after threatening them, forced them to get out of their parked minibus.
“Shots were fired but fortunately the man and woman managed to flee,” said police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.
“The attackers, meanwhile fled the scene, taking with them the couple’s cellphones, wallet and money,” she said.
The matter was reported to Port Shepstone SAPS and police from different units responded swiftly.
Sergeant Rommel da Rosa and Constable Ronald Cwele from the (K9 search and rescue) arrested one of the men who had been hiding in dense bush near King Haakon Road, Oslo Beach.
A short while later, Warrant Officer Rams Ramphul, accompanied by Sgt Sifiso Sokhela, Cst Timothy King, Cst Siyanqoba Mbhele, Cst Sbonelo Ndwande and W/O Gabriel Nel spotted the two other men, also in Oslo Beach, and arrested them.
The couple’s belongings were found in the men’s possession and a Vektor pistol was recovered from the bush in Oslo Beach.
The three men will face charges of attempted murder, armed robbery and possession of an unlicenced firearm respectively and will appear in court soon.
Major-General Thembi Ndlovu, cluster commander of Port Shepstone, commended the officers on their quick action.
