‘Limited budget’ blamed for lack of progress
The community had a chance to speak its mind.
THE first Hibiscus Coast Municipality Imbizo meeting was held at Merlewood Youth Centre where the ‘Cluster 2’ wards were represented by a small group of community members.
In her address, HCM mayor Nomusa Cynthia Mqwebu told the crowd that it was unfortunate that it (HCM) could not meet all the demands that were brought forward on last year’s meeting, due to the limited budget .
“We are still working on your demands but today the main focus is to brief you on progress that we have already made as well as to get your input on how the municipality can fast-track your demands,” said the mayor.
One resident, Nicolas Lawrence, said the crime levels in the area were extremely high and felt this was due to a lack of visible policing.
In response, the mayor urged the community to work with the police to fight crime.
