A HOLIDAYMAKER from the Cape is not amused by what she terms the ‘lackadaisical attitude’ of the Umkomaas SAPS and is considering avoiding the South Coast all together in the future.
After arriving in Durban, the woman and her husband hired a car and drove to their accommodation in Umkomaas. Later that evening they popped out for dinner, but when they got back they found their unit had been ransacked.
The woman, who is visually impaired, was particularly devastated at the loss of her computer tablet on which all her personal documents are stored. She added that by the time their holiday came to an end, the police had still had not arrived to dust for fingerprints.
When trying to follow up with police, the woman said it had been impossible to get in touch with any of the investigating officers and she had had to resort to contacting a neighbouring station to find out how the matter was progressing.
The Umkomaas SAPS confirmed that a case had been opened and that finger prints were requested to be taken the same day. However, they were unable to confirm if the fingerprints had in fact been taken. They said: ‘we are sorry to hear about the complaint’.
