USHERING in a new era of school governance at Jai Hind Primary, the by-elections were held last week following the resignation of previously elected members. The newly-elected governing body has reaped a good yield of members from various sectors of the community, namely Nati Jali, Mandla Tushini, Sarge Kistasamy, Fikile Khumalo, Gugu Dlamini and Rubeun Judnarain.
The new governing body has pledged its support for the school, more pointedly for the pupils, and promised to focus on teacher support and pupil needs. This body will be in office until March 2015 when fresh elections will take place. Until then, the present SGB has a number of important duties to perform and unfinished business to take care of, which will hopefully take the school forward.
Parents of Jai Hind pupils are informed that the governing body welcomes comments and suggestions to help run the school, and its doors are open for contact at any time. A special parents’ meeting is scheduled for early next year.
During the absence of a duly-elected governing body, the school is grateful to the Department of Education for appointing the interim governing body support team, namely Ronald Wood (circuit manager), Kanthan Appalraju (principal, Port Shepstone Senior Primary) and Dr Jerome Gumede (school governance), who looked after the school’s governing body portfolio.
If the pledge given by the governing body is anything to go by, then Jai Hind can rest assured that it will make a fruitful difference to the running of the school. The newly appointed members are wished well in this venture.
