Petty thief bagged at the beach

The lifeguards have given notice that they intend to be extra eyes and ears for the police this season to help make the beach a crime-free zone for the holiday crowds.

AN opportunistic thief who decided to get an early start on his Christmas ‘shopping’  at Scottburgh beach recently was swiftly nabbed by lifeguards and beachgoers and stripped of his booty.

A woman was visiting the beach when a man dashed past, grabbed her handbag and fled across the beach. He disappeared into the bushes north of the Mpanbonyoni River.

Lifeguards and beachgoers gave chase and found him with the handbag in the bushes. They guarded the man until police arrived to make the formal arrest.
