Inmates found dead in prison cell

The two men were arrested for robbing houses in Margate.

TWO awaiting trial prisoners were found dead in the Margate police cells on Tuesday this week.

They have been identified as Nkululeko Danca (20) and Thele Nzimakwe (26).

“Police made a visit to the cells at 4am and found the two men dead,” said police spokesman Captain Gerald Mfeka.

“Danca was found lying in a pool of blood on the floor, while Nzimakwe was found hanging from the ceiling. At this stage it is though that the  inmates had a fight. No weapons were found in the cell,” said Capt Mfeka.

He added that Danca, from Gcilima, had been arrested on Monday this week for breaking into a house in Margate and was due to appear in court on Tuesday morning.

Nzimakwe (26), also from Gcilima, was arrested for two house robberies in Margate. He was due to appear in court for the second robbery yesterday (Wednesday).
