Pastors say ‘NO’ to nudist beach
The group will send a formal application to HCM asking council to reconsider its decision.
A GROUP of more than 50 pastors will send a formal application to the Hibiscus Coast Municipality council, asking it to reconsider its decision to make 500 metres of Mpenjati beach naturist friendly.
At a meeting held at Radiant Life Church in Palmview last Sunday, pastors told HCM municipal manager Max Mbili that they were really concerned with the decision taken by the municipality.
“How can the municipality take such a decision when so many people are against a nudist beach,” said Pastor Reggie John.

“We have done our homework and have a presentation ready to be presented to council, as to why it should reconsider its decision,” he added.
Pastor John added that a group of pastors had also visited the proposed nudist beach site and held a prayer meeting there.
HCM manager Max Mbili said that pastors could send in their applications to the municipality and the topic would be discussed at council.
“People should know that we as officials do not take the decisions but council does,” said Mr Mbili. He added that council was open to the public and it was important for the public to sit in council to see how decisions are taken.
“It is worrying that there were no such meetings when the public was given a chance to voice their views on the nudist beach, before the decision was taken,” said Mr Mbili.

“The municipality has invited people to suggest a new name for the new municipality, after the merging of Ezinqoleni and Hibiscus Coast municipality. Only a few people have proposed a new name. I am sure when council decides on a name, people who have not taken an interest in suggesting a name will be the first ones to complain, just like it has happened with the nudist beach proposal,” said Mr Mbili.
He encouraged everyone to be more active when they are invited to take part in making important decision within the community rather to complain after a decision has been taken.
