DAGGA to the value of R6 697 was recovered by police on Tuesday evening this week.
A man (26) and a woman (25) were arrested in two separate incidents by Sergeant Sibusiso Cele from Port Shepstone 10111 call centre and Sergeant Thabane Mofokeng from Port Shepstone K9 Unit.
Police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid, said that the two members were conducting stop and search duties with fellow officers near the Oribi toll plaza when they found the people in two separate minibus taxis en route from Lusikisiki to Durban.
“The woman was in possession of three kilograms of loose dagga and the man 1,147 kilograms,” she said. The two were charged and appeared in court.
Lt-Col Wiid said Sergeant Rudi Smit from the Port Shepstone 10111 call centre also found 603 grams of loose dagga in a plastic bag which had been abandoned in a taxi.
Cluster commander of Port Shepstone, Major General Thembi Ndlovu, commented that this type of arrest should send out a clear message to drug traffickers.
“We will conduct stop and search duties and random roadblocks on a regular basis in the whole of the Port Shepstone cluster to combat the transporting of drugs, stolen property and firearms and ammunition,” she said.
