CemAir’s fleet has grown
The airline's intention is to focus on the people who make its work possible, and their needs, which make its expansion probable.
CEMAIR has had a particularly exciting and very busy 2014, having expanded its fleet, route network and service offering.
The airline recently hosted a public presentation of the newly acquired Bombardier Dash 8 at Margate Airport.
Hibiscus Coast Municipality mayor, Cynthia Mqwebu, deputy mayor, Johnny de Wet, municipal manager Max Mbili and various members of the public, including this reporter, got the opportunity to take to the skies in this dynamic aircraft.
The Dash 8 design has better cruise performance than its predecessor, the Dash 7, is less expensive to operate and much less expensive to maintain, due largely to having only two engines.
It is a little noisier than the Dash 7 and is able to operate from small airports with 2 200 feet (670 metre) runways, compared to the 3 000 feet (910 metres) required by a fully loaded Dash 7.
CemAir’s CEO and owner, Miles van der Molen, said that the aircraft had been acquired to accommodate increased demand on its Margate and Plettenberg Bay routes.
“This 37-seat aircraft gives passengers the benefit of a full service cabin including a cabin attendant, galley and a lavatory while still offering an arrival at a more conveniently located airport,” said Mr van der Molen.
