Local 10111 emergency line is launched
All calls made to 10111 will reach the call centre in Port Shepstone.
AFTER many months of planning, the new SAPS 10111 call centre at Port Shepstone police station is now operational.
The call centre, which is currently in stage one of implementation, will serve the Port Shepstone policing cluster northwards to Scottburgh.
Police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid, said that all calls made to 10111 will reach the call centre in Port Shepstone, even if a call is received from other places.
She explained that when a complaint or call for assistance is received via the 10111 emergency line at the call centre, personnel on duty will immediately dispatch the nearest response vehicle.
Lt-Col Wiid added that apart from the normal shift vehicles on duty, the call centre in Port Shepstone also had two response vehicles which concentrated mainly on incidents of crime and other complaints on the freeway.
“An accident response vehicle as well as SAPS divers are also dispatched via the call centre,” she said.
The other contact numbers are 039 6881004/1005/1286. It is envisaged that the call centre will also serve more policing areas when stage two of the project is implemented at a later stage.
Lieutenant Anesh Ravidas is in command at the call centre. Cluster Commander of Port Shepstone, Major General Thembi Ndlovu, is excited about the project as she firmly believes that it will improve service delivery to the community.
“Being able to directly dispatch response vehicles to scenes of crime and/or complaints from the call centre between Scottburgh and Port Shepstone, will ensure quicker reaction and compliance by the police,” said Maj Gen Ndlovu.
