Speedster nabbed at 173km/h

Motorists who exceed the speed limit are paying the price.

A MAN on his way from Durban to the Eastern Cape was caught driving a VW Golf at 173km/h on the N2 near Ifafa on Monday this week. Yongala Madolo (29) paid a fine of R3 000.

“He was caught speeding by Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) officers on the N2 freeway at Ifafa, near Hibberdene,” said police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.

“He was stopped and arrested and charged for speeding. He paid the fine at the Hibberdene police station,” she said.

Mr Madolo appeared in the Hibberdene court where he pleaded guilty and was handed a fine of R5 000.

“Motorists should be cautious on the roads, especially as the traffic increases during this time. We call on all motorists to obey the rules of the road. It is everyone’s responsibility to prevent tragedies from happening and to ensure that all road users enjoy a safe and happy festive season,” said Lt-Col Wiid.
