Grandmother raped at Umzumbe

It is believed that the man is related to his victim.

A GRANDMOTHER (60) was raped at Msinsini in Umzumbe last Sunday.

Msinsini police arrested and charged a 22-year-old man earlier today (Monday).

It is believed that the victim was returning home after attending a traditional ceremony in Bombo ward at around 8pm when she saw the man who lives in the same house as she does.

“She was glad to see him as she thought he would walk her home. However, on the way, he produced a knife, threatened her, and pulled her into the bushes where he raped her twice,” said SAPS spokesman Lieutenant -Colonel Zandra Wiid.

“A passer-by found her on the road. The woman was injured in the attack and taken to hospital for treatment,” she added.

The man is due to appear in the Umzumbe court on Wednesday.
