A THREE-month-old baby went missing from a home in Nyavini Location in the Msinsini area, Hibberdene on Tuesday this week.
The alarm was raised when the mother (35) of the baby girl reported that her child had gone missing around midday.
Police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid, said that, according to the mother, she went out to the garden to work after the child was fed and had fallen asleep on the bed in the house at 7am.
Lt-Col Wiid said that the mother left the baby in the care of another older child. “The woman says she went back to feed the child at midday, after which she left baby in the care of a cousin,” she said.
According to the mother, a short while later the cousin told her that the baby was asleep and that he was taking a walk.
At 1.15pm, she apparently sent other children to check on the baby. It was then discovered that the child was missing.
Lt-Col Wiid said detectives and police from Msinsini SAPS were called.
“The Port Shepstone K9 Search and Rescue searched the area for most of the evening, but the child is still missing,” she added.

Police have opened a kidnapping case.
