MARGATE police are investigating two separate rape cases which occurred last Thursday.
The first incident occurred when a 29-year-old woman who was raped at Ramsgate beach.
Police spokesman Captain Gerald Mfeka said the woman was at her place of work when a man known to her asked her to go with him to Margate beach to celebrate the New Year.
“According to the victim, she asked her friend to accompany them. They celebrated the New Year on Margate beach and at about 4.30am the friend was dropped off at Gamalakhe,” said Capt Mfeka.
He added that on their way back the man drove to Ramsgate beach and raped the woman, allegedly at gunpoint. She was later dropped off at Margate beach.
“No arrests have yet been made and police are investigating a rape case,” said Capt Mfeka.
In another incident, an 18-year-old girl was raped in Erasmus Road, Margate, last Thursday at about 8pm.
“The teenager was walking with some friends when they were confronted by two men armed with knives. They chased her friends away and took her into the bushes where she was raped,” said Capt Mfeka.
No arrests have yet been made.
