Man held for possession of unlicensed firearm

The firearm's serial number had been filed off.

A MAN was arrested and charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm at the Masinenge informal settlement, Margate on Monday this week.

Margate crime prevention officers, under the command of Warrant Office Gideon Mthembu, were performing crime prevention duties when they received information about a firearm at the settlement.

“A search was conducted at one of the houses and Constable Bhekizitha Shange found a 9mm pistol. The serial number was filed off. They also recovered a magazine and a toy gun,” said Capt Mfeka.

Sandile Qwebani (29), appeared in the Ramsgate court on Tuesday this week and the case was postponed to February 13. The man remains in police custody.
