YET another drug arrest was made at the Port Shepstone taxi rank earlier this week.
The arrest was made after officers from the Public Order Policing (POP) unit and the Port Shepstone K9 unit received a complaint about illegal substances at the taxi rank on Wednesday morning.
“Constable Travis Dickens from (POP), Sergeant Joseph Cele and Sgt Mbuso Ndlovu arrested a woman (37) who was in possession of 176 straws of heroin and five Mandrax tablets,” said police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.
A 30-year-old man found to have 23 straws of heroin in his possession was also arrested. In addition, the officers found money which will be handed in as evidence.
“It is alarming to see how many people are hooked on drugs and it is especially worrying to find that teenagers are using heroin (whoonga),” said Lt-Col Wiid.
“This results in these youngsters having a criminal record at a young age and often leads them to other crimes such as housebreaking and theft and robbery in order to obtain items which are then sold for drug money,” she added.
