A HOUSEBREAKER was caught on Monday morning after police from the Port Shepstone SAPS K9 unit tracked the man for quite a distance on a railway line in the Southport area.
Security guards also assisted the police in looking for the intruder.
The housebreaking occurred in Pumula at about 3am, and several items were stolen. “Sergeant Desmond Theunissen, Constable Ashley Ramsingh and Constable Senzo Nzama, together with patrol dog, Max, responded to the call-out,” said police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.
The officers were assisted by the owner who managed to track his cellphone and followed the trail all along the railway tracks from Pumula towards Sea Park, she said.
Police dog, Max caught the man who was carrying a backpack. Two laptops, a cellphone, wristwatch, bank cards, pliers, a screwdriver and a camera were recovered. All the items were stolen during the housebreaking.
The man (21) is due to appear in court soon.
