Supercops sniff out socialite ‘cokeheads’

The 'public antics' of some prominent citizens have 'not gone unnoticed'.

SCOTTBURGH socialites are likely to be in a rush to flush stashes of cocaine down the loo after a Facebook post by one of Scottburgh’s top detectives.

SAPS Detective Commander Captain Ivan van Wyk’s post has 81 comments and 208 likes so far.

“I have noticed some of Scottburgh’s socialites have been indulging in some white powder up their noses. Do you really think that your public antics are going unnoticed? No regrets later when you are arrested,” read the post.

Captain van Wyk was reluctant to elaborate on his Facebook comments at this stage, but confirmed that a clampdown on drugs was very much a part of their crime fighting strategy at the moment.

He added that he and his colleagues were working ‘flat out’ to curb an increase in housebreaking in the Umdoni area.

They have had a minor breakthrough with the arrest of a suspect who is linked to four different cases in Scottburgh South and Central and Freeland Park.

“Heroin addiction seems to be the driving force behind this increase,” said Captain van Wyk.

Therefore, the fight against housebreaking  does not stop at merely arresting the burglars themselves. Police are casting the net wider to flush out drug dealers.

Although Captain van Wyk said he couldn’t comment any further, one can safely assume that the names of some of Scottburgh’s leading citizens have cropped up during investigations.

There is now a groundswell of law-abiding citizens who have promised to show their gratitude by delivering cakes and muffins to the police station on a regular basis.
