THE Port Shepstone 10111 Highway Patrol was commended by Major General Thembi Ndlovu, the Port Shepstone Cluster Commander, for its sterling work.
“The Highway Patrol has made a significant impact on crime within a short space of time,” she said.
Maj Gen Ndlovu said that since the unit was introduced last year, a number of successful arrests and recoveries of stolen property and drugs had been made.
This applause comes after members of the Port Shepstone 10111 Highway Patrol sourced information on a stolen motor vehicle being stripped in Nkombo Ward, Malangeni last month and raided the premises.
Police spokesman, Captain Vincent Pandarum, said the men were found stripping the vehicle which had been stolen in Berea on January 24.
Ndodo Clifford Dlamini (41) and Bhekumuzi Protas Dube (24) were arrested and detained until their first appearance in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on January 30.
They will remain in police custody and are expected to appear in court again on Thursday. They face charges of theft of a motor vehicle and being in possession of car break-in implements.
Captain Pandarum said police impounded the vehicle and seized a large quantity of tools, ignition switches, an angle grinder, sanding machine, compressor and various items that are used for panel beating and spray painting.
“Among the seized items was a die stamp punch set that is used to print a false engine number after the original has been ground off,” he said.
