Multi-million rand upgrade for Shelly Centre

The exciting journey to a new Shelly Centre has begun.

THERE is a multi-million rand upgrade on the horizon…and it is taking place at one of the coast’s most loved shopping outlets, Shelly Centre.

Tessa Pendock, marketing manager of Shelly Centre, said the last upgrade was in 2003 and although the centre has been well-maintained, it is time to upgrade and modernise the centre.

“Our shoppers’ environment and overall experience with us is of utmost importance, which is why we have decided to embark on this exciting multi-million rand voyage to an all new Shelly Centre,” she said.

Miss Pendock said that the centre’s aim is to create a consistent look and modern feel using wood and natural elements.

“There will be an overall fresh, new look and feel to the centre,” she added.

Customers can look forward to a brand new lift at Entrance 3, new tiles throughout the centre, a new, more modern ceiling design, innovative new shopfronts for certain tenants and revamped entrances and car park landscaping with trees and plants.

Miss Pendock said that some of the refurbishments have already begun behind the scenes with contractors working through the night to avoid any inconvenience to customers.

She explained that so far, they have removed the ceiling between Entrance 1 and 2.

“The refurbishment programme is planned to work in such a way that construction will happen in zones,” she said.

Miss Pendock explained that this meant that once a ‘zone’ or particular area is complete the team will move onto the next zone.

“It’s business as usual and at no point will trade stop. We have taken all precautions to ensure there is little inconvenience to customers,” she said.

Miss Pendock confirmed that the upgrade would be completed by the end of November.

To officially launch the refurbishment, Shelly Centre will have a promotional stand in the Centre Court for the first two weeks in March.

Promoters will hand out welcome packs to shoppers, comprising of information on the refurbishment, a gift of a branded luggage tag and a loyalty card.

Miss Pendock explained that for shoppers to stand a chance to win a luxury cruise and luggage set for two they need to collect a stamp with every R200 or more they spend at Shelly Centre.

“The first 700 shoppers to complete their cards receive a stunning free gift and will be entered into our draw for the main prize,” she said.

Loyalty stamps are available from either the Tourist Centre or the centre management offices.

Miss Pendock said the centre will keep the public informed every step of the way via its facebook page, ShellyCentre KZN.
