A GANG which apparently planned to carry out an armed robbery in Marburg was stopped in its tracks by police and law enforcement officers earlier today.
Acting on information received, Warrant Officer Christo Mostert, from the Port Shepstone Crime Intelligence Section, and Devlyn Abbott, from Hibiscus Coast Protection Services, swooped on a service station in Oslo Beachand nabbed the three men before they could carry out their plan.
W/O Mostert and Officer Abbott were assisted by members of the Port Shepstone K9 Unit who arrested the gang.
An unlicenced firearm and three rounds of ammunition were recovered from the men.
The heavy police presence in the area caught the interest of many passers-by and motorists who immediately notified the Herald.
Police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid, said the men have been charged with being in possession of an unlicenced firearm and ammunition.
They are expected to appear in court on Friday this week.
