‘Strange smell’ renders mum helpless during rape and robbery

The mother of two believes the intruders may have burnt some chemical which made the family sleep through the break-in.

A MOTHER of two has filed a report with police stating that she was raped and robbed at her home in Shelly Beach last Saturday.

The woman (32) says she woke up at around 2am and ‘saw shadows’.

“For some reason, when I got up I was confused and drowsy. I recall seeing my sons (13) and (5) asleep in bed but the rest I can’t remember,” she said.

When she got up later, she discovered that her pants were  on the wrong way .

“I saw that the kitchen door was wide open and noticed items missing. There was also a strange smell and I believe that the thieves burnt some chemical that made us sleep through the night,” she said.

At around 4am, she tried to wake up the boys who were still fast asleep. She added that she had a severe pain in her stomach and felt very sick and thought she had been raped. She went to a clinic and had tests done which indicated that she had indeed been raped.

Police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said investigations are continuing and no arrests have yet been made.

The intruders fled with a television, cellphone, food and cash.
