A SECURITY guard on duty at Atlas Scrap in Park Rynie was confronted by three men, two of whom were armed with guns at 9pm on St Valentine’s Day.
“This is the first time in seven years that something like this has happened,” said branch manager,Trevor Greeff.
The suspects bound the guard’s hands with a piece of rope and, while one of the gunmen stood guard over him, the other two used a cutting torch to open the safe.
The guard’s cellphone, his bank cards and an undisclosed sum of money were taken.
The suspects had tripped the power before entering the property so the surveillance cameras could not be checked for evidence.
Magma Security arrived while the suspects were on the property. However, one of the suspects was wearing a ‘security’ uniform and assured Magma everything was okay.
Trusting the so-called security, Magma left without patrolling the property. No arrests have yet been made. The guard was a bit shaken, but unharmed.
