Teen tries her luck at Hibberdene mall

Police are trying to locate the girl's family.

A TEENAGE girl was apparently seen trying to open vehicles parked at the Hibberdene shopping complex yesterday (Sunday).

The girl (15)  was taken into custody by members of the community and handed over to police.

Police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said the girl told police that someone else had told her to try and open the vehicles.

At this stage, no cases have been opened, nor have any statements been made to police.

“An enquiry into the matter has been opened by Hibberdene police who are verifying her allegations,” she said. Police are also trying to locate the girl’s family.

In a separate incident last Thursday, a 45-year-old woman reported to police that she was robbed  while walking near Shad Bay in Hibberdene at 4.30pm.

Lt-Col Wiid said the man made off with some of her personal items and a common robbery case is being investigated by Hibberdene police.

In both instances,  members of the  AZASOS neighbourhood Whatsapp group in Hibberdene provided assistance.

Eugene Halliday, founder of AZASOS, said crime in the area has dropped.

“We praise the police for their prompt and professional response in both these cases,” he added.
