THREE stolen cars, an unlicenced firearm, ammunition, and various tools have been recovered by the Port Shepstone K9 Unit in Shelly Beach.
Police last Thursday police received intelligence on a certain vehicle suspected to have been used in the theft of another vehicle.
Sergeant Willow le Roux and Warrant Officer Hendrik Ludick from the Port Shepstone K9 unit were on duty in Shelly Beach when they spotted the vehicle, a white Mitsubishi Lancer, in Marine Drive.
“This vehicle was seen when a maroon Honda CR-V was stolen on Wednesday night in Shelly Beach,” said police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.
“The officers made a u-turn and stopped the vehicle and asked the occupants, three men and a woman, to alight.”
The woman (30) was found to be in possession of an unlicensed firearm and eight rounds of ammunition.
The men (aged 27, 28 and 30), were also questioned and police were directed to a house in Marine drive, Oslo Beach.
Before going to the house the officers called for backup. Constables Cosmos Ngcobo, Oscar Msomi, Nhlanhla Majozi and Phili Kheswa from the Port Shepstone Community Service Centre (CSC) responded.
“At the house in Oslo beach the stolen maroon Honda was found in a garage. A white Isuzu bakkie, which was reported stolen by the owner in Oslo Beach last Friday, was also found hidden in a garage. The white Mitsubishi Lancer was stolen from the owner in Pretoria at gunpoint during December,” said Lt-Col Wiid.
All four suspects face charges of theft of motor vehicle, possession of stolen property and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
