A MOTHER (58) and her son (27) were arrested in Port Edward on Wednesday last week for being in possession of dagga.
Their 14.330 kg stash was sniffed out when Sergeant Rudi Smit, Constable Sibusiso Cele and Cst Zonwabele Mpofana went to Port Edward after receiving information.
“The officers stopped a minibus taxi which was en route to Port Shepstone from the Eastern Cape,” said police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.
A search was conducted and the officers saw two bags containing the dagga. “They tried to conceal the smell of the dagga by placing moth balls inside the bags,” said Lt-Col Wiid.
Both mother and son are due to appear in the Ramsgate Magistrate’s Court soon.
Police established that the mother and son are from the Port Shepstone area and had travelled to the Eastern Cape to fetch the dagga to be sold here.
