A TRADITIONAL healer from the Mlamuli area near Umzumbe was sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court recently.
In 2012 Mgabselwa Mnguni (69) sexually assaulted five children between the ages of eight and 10 years, claiming he could ‘heal’ the children by raping them.
He was arrested on March 25 2012. He escaped on April 3 2012 during a medical examination but was rearrested the same day with the assistance of the Port Shepstone K9 Unit.
Mnguni was sentenced to 17 years imprisonment for five counts of rape and an additional three years for escaping from police custody.
Detective Constable Sifiso Gigaba from Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit (FCS) Port Shepstone was the investigating officer.
