Woman hides heroin in bread

The woman was smuggling the drugs to an awaiting trial prisoner.

IT’S no surprise that prison inmates often get high, but how do they get their hands on the drugs while in prison?

Well, no sniffer dogs were used in this arrest. Last Wednesday, Warrant Officer Lallchand Lalmun was searching the  bags and parcels of visitors to awaiting-trial prisoners at the Hibberdene police station.

“A woman handed W/O Lalmun a loaf of bread and a roast chicken,” said police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.

The officer then discovered three straws of heroin concealed inside the bread.

Beauty Cele (78) was arrested and charged with possession of heroin. She appeared in court last Thursday and was released on bail.

The case was postponed to April 28.
