Hibberdene no ‘Halliday’ for hoods

Most of the stolen property was recovered.

EUGENE Halliday, founder of the AZASOS neighbourhood Whatsapp group in Hibberdene, is on a mission again.

This time he chased after house robbers who ransacked a house in Hooper Drive, Hibberdene, last Friday.

The homeowner discovered that his house had been ransacked after he activated a panic button when he heard dogs barking.

Police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid, said two men were seen running from the premises and their description was circulated to members of the community.

Mr Halliday received the description and, together with an employee from Ithunzi Protection Services, chased after the men.

He said the team from Hibberdene SAPS responded within minutes.

Mr Halliday then came across bags and parcels containing groceries, meat, toiletries and clothing which the robbers had thrown down.

Lt-Col Wiid said members of the Port Shepstone K9 unit also responded and searched the area, but could not locate the perpetrators. Investigations are continuing.

Cluster commander, Major General Thembi Ndlovu, welcomed the quick response and assistance from the community and conveyed her appreciation for assisting the police.
