Just in: Driver shot in latest outbreak of taxi violence

More taxi trouble has been reported in Gamalakhe and at the Port Shepstone rank.

A TAXI driver was shot when violence broke out at the Gamalakhe rank last night.

According to police spokesman, Captain Gerald Mfeka, this latest flare-up is part of the on-going dispute between two rival taxi associations.

“Several taxis were damaged during last night’s unrest and police are still on the scene, ” he said.

Unconfirmed reports from the scene indicate that R4 cartridges were found and that more than 30 rounds were fired.

Meanwhile, at the Port Shepstone rank this morning, stone-throwing is the order of the day and is apparently linked to last night’s shooting.  Police are on the scene.
